Fruits are used as the foundation for many dessert recipes, and for good reason. They’re sweet, juicy and delicious. And that’s exactly why an apple crumble is so tasty. Well, that and the butter and sugar that is part of most recipes because, you know, few recipes with butter and sugar aren’t amazing. So sweeten up your day with this apple crumble and maybe add a little ice cream on the side while you’re at it.
Ingredients
- 12 tablespoons/170 grams unsalted butter, melted, plus more for buttering the pan
- 1½ cups/180 grams all-purpose flour
- 1½ cup/300 grams packed dark brown sugar, divided
- 1 cup/80 grams old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1 cup/113 grams pecans, chopped
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 3½ pounds mixed apples, such as Granny Smith, Macintosh, and Pink Lady, peeled, cored, and cut into ½-inch wedges (about 8 medium apples)
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
Step 1
To get started, begin heating your oven to 350 degrees. Then, butter a 13- x 9-inch baking dish. Next, combine your flour, 1 cup/200 grams of brown sugar, oats, pecans and salt all in a medium bowl. Add the butter and stir with a fork until the crumbs are moistened evenly.
Step 2
Begin this step by adding the apples to your buttered baking dish and tossing in the remaining ½ cup/100 grams brown sugar, cinnamon and lemon juice. Next, spread your apples into an even layer. Press your crumb mixture together so you get clumps of various sizes and sprinkle them on top of the apples. Finally, put it in the oven and bake it until the topping is crisp and golden brown. This should take about 50 to 60 minutes. Serve your apple crumble at room temperature.
