Toyota has continued to nurture and grow its lineup of electrified vehicles. Those hybrid electric, plug-in electric, and fuel cell electric vehicles are defining the field with an impressive balance of efficiency and power. As a result, Toyota, which was an early adopter in electrification, has announced that it will release 15 new battery-electric vehicles by 2025. In total, Toyota said that they will release 70 new models by 2025, which includes a range of choices from battery-electric, hydrogen fuel cell, and gas-electric. Furthermore, Toyota plans to electrify its pickup truck lineup in the near future. Overall, these plans will help propel Toyota toward its goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.

How Do Hybrid Vehicles Work?
Hybrid electric cars are powered by an internal combustion engine along with an electric motor, which uses energy stored in batteries. Those batteries are charged by braking and by the eternal combustion engine. The battery also reduces engine idling when stopped. The key components of a hybrid electric car are: the battery, DC/DC converter, electric generator, electric traction motor, exhaust system, fuel filler, internal combustion engine, power electronics controller, thermal system, traction battery pack, and the transmission.

Types of Hybrids
There are various types of hybrids on the market, ranging from the most common parallel hybrid, to the series hybrid, and the plug-in hybrid. The parallel hybrid connects the electric motor and gasoline engine to a common transmission. One of the popular transmissions is the power-split CVT, which is found on the Prius.
