Plan Your Next Camping Trip at Padre Island National Seashore

Padre Island National Seashore

Ready for some outdoor fun? You can get what you’re looking for by taking a camping trip to the Padre Island National Seashore. Use these tips to plan your camping trip.

Choose Your Campground

Padre Island National Seashore has five campgrounds available. Malaquite Campground has 48 semi-primitive sites that are perfect for tent campers. Set your tent up on the beach or at a campsite. You’ll have access to cold-water rinse showers and flush toilets at this campground.

If you want to enjoy birding, boating, kayaking, or fishing, pitch a tent at Bird Island Basic Campground. It’s right by a boat ramp, and campers have access to a bathhouse.

North Beach offers beachfront camping at its best, but it doesn’t have any facilities. South Beach is similar to North beach, but it has chemical toilets.

You can also enjoy primitive camping at Yarborough Pass. There aren’t any facilities, but you will have lots of peace and quiet.

Choose Your Camping Style

Tent camping is the most popular choice at the campgrounds, but you can bring an RV if you want. It’s important to understand that the campsites do not have RV hookups, but there is an RV dump station and a water-filling station. If you don’t need hookups, you can bring your RV along so you can sleep in your own bed instead of the ground.

Load Up Before You Go

You can’t buy fishing licenses, firewood, food, or ice at the park. The park is off the beaten path, and you won’t even have access to a gas station. You’ll have to travel about 12 miles down the road to pick anything up, so it’s a good idea to load up before you go. Otherwise, you will have an uncomfortable camping trip.

Don’t Forget Your Permit

All campers have to have a permit. You even need one if you camp on the beach. There are kiosks at the entrance of each campground, and you can pick up your permit there. Make sure you have it so you don’t have to pay a fine if you get caught.

Now you’re almost ready to go camping. You just need one more thing. Stop by Mike Shaw Toyota in Robstown, Texas, and pick up some new wheels to head out on your adventure. Get a spacious Highlander to hold all of your camping gear or get the efficient Camry Hybrid so you can go back and forth to the campground without having to stop by the gas station. Our team will help you pick the perfect ride.
