Adopt A Vehicle Maintenance Schedule

oil change service

Do you avoid taking your vehicle in to be serviced because you are worried they will find something costly wrong with it? The truth is, if you prioritize regularly scheduled vehicle maintenance, you can avoid costly repairs altogether, as services like tire rotations, oil changes, and wheel alignments prevent serious automotive maintenance. Follow a maintenance schedule to save both time and money!

Oil Changes

Over time, as you drive your vehicle, the engine releases dirt, grime, carbon, and pieces of metal in the oil. The vehicle you drive and the kind of oil you use will determine how often you need your oil changed and the oil filter switched out. Some vehicles need the oil changed out every 3,000 miles, while other vehicles can go 10,000 miles.

Tires

Make a point once a week to examine the tread of your vehicle’s tires. It is important the tires are not underinflated nor overinflated. Check your owner’s manual to see how often you should have your tires rotated, but bank on it being anywhere from 6,000 to 8,000 miles.

Air Filter

If you want your engine to perform at an optimal pace, you must change out the air filter. This should be done every 15,000 to 30,000 miles. Although, if you park in an extremely dusty area it is suggested to change it out every 15,000 miles.

Battery

There are many factors that determine the longevity of your battery’s lifetime. The climate, driving long distances, and the age of the battery are all key factors. You can usually count on your vehicle’s battery lasting anywhere from four to five years. Take in your vehicle to have the battery tested to ensure it is working properly.

Brakes

Are your brakes squeaking? This can mean two things: it’s time for fresh brake fluid, or you need to replace your brake pads. Typically your brake fluid should be changed every 20,000 miles to 45,000 miles, and brake pads should be replaced around every 50,000 miles.
