The Harlem Globetrotters have livened up exhibition basketball with clever stunts and wild antics for nearly a century, and now they’re on tour to do it all again. Your whole family can have some laughs when the team comes to Corpus Christi this March!
Game Details
The team will play at the American Bank Center on Sunday, March 1. The game will start at 3 p.m. Admission starts at $27 for stadium seating, and courtside seating is also available. You can order tickets through Ticketmaster . The American Bank Center’s address is 1901 North Shoreline Boulevard, Corpus Christi, Texas 78401.
World Travelers
The Harlem Globetrotters have been performing on the court for 94 years, and the modern-day roster just set out on their newest tour late last year. For their current world tour, the team will play in 30 countries, bringing the sport to some communities that have never seen an exhibition game of basketball, let alone an athletic spectacle like theirs. They’ll also travel the U.S. to play more than 200 domestic games.
High-Flying Antics
The Globetrotters have been executing impressive trick shots long before aspiring athletes began posting their stunts on YouTube. The team already has an impressive repertoire of trick plays, so they had to reach new heights in order to one-up themselves. Last December, they took to the skies to pull off a trick shot like no other. Hammer Harrison strapped into a parachute and leapt from an airplane soaring 13,000 feet above ground. Before landing, he set a record by dunking a goal and completing the world’s first sky dive trick shot.
Fun and Games
While there’s obviously a performance aspect to the Globetrotters’ game, the team is not technically guaranteed to win. When they have the ball, they launch into one of their frenetic routines, bringing a healthy dose of comedy and theater to the court. However, when their permanent rivals, The Washington Generals, have control of the ball, the display gives way to an actual competition.
The Globetrotters vs. The Generals
Although it’s rare, there are a few incidents where the Globetrotters let the underdogs pull ahead, including the most infamous occasion in 1971. The Harlem team had lost track of the score and were still behind with seconds on the clock. Meadowlark Lemon made a desperate shot to rebound, but missed the goal. The Generals won the match and broke a 2,495-game losing streak.
